No More HOMEWORK HEADACHES!
Get your FAMILY TIME back!
By Sue A. Cowling
It’s that time again! Parents and
kids are ready to start the year off with good intentions of doing their
best, getting good grades, and never fighting about HOMEWORK!
After a few weeks, progress reports
come out and panic sets in! Now what? New grade level, new, higher
expectations, faster pace…OK, take a deep breath…let’s figure this out…
DON’T WAIT TO GET HELP! The biggest
mistake parents make is waiting until their child is already behind and
trying to catch up. Know what’s required and make your kids responsible
for knowing when assignments are due and when their next test will be
held. Writing everything down in their assignment books is key to
staying organized!
How can you make those dreaded
Spelling Tests important, and make sure they remember how to spell those
words later? When writing Spelling sentences, be sure they include a lot
of describing words, and for the younger kids, they should have at least
the same number of words as their age (8 years old, at least 8 words!).
Parents, we know it’s been a long
time since you had to multiply fractions, or work out an algebraic
equation, and those awful story problems…oh no! Again…deep breath! Math
is a subject that usually gets easier when students can get a little
extra individual time with an experienced tutor, just to show them that
it’s really not that hard. Oh, and then have your kids come home and
teach YOU! It will make them feel great, they’ll tend to remember it
forever, and…bonus!...You’ll learn something, too!
Book Reports, School projects...every
parent’s nightmare! You feel like you’re going back to school, right?
When the assignment is given, set goals to accomplish certain sections
by a certain date. You can actually make it fun while learning new
things together, reading stories, researching topics and experimenting
with your creativity.
Still need help? SCV Tutors C.A.R.E.
Learning Center has the answer! We’ll pick up your child from school and
take care of everything! By the time you pick them up, homework and
projects will be done, tests will be studied for, and they’ll receive
individualized tutoring and writing enrichment! Sound good? Now go home,
have a nice, family dinner, talk, laugh, and enjoy your time together!
